Cletus Babu wint opnieuw een award
Dear Supporters and Friends,
Loving greetings from SCAD.
Hope this finds you well.
We are delighted to inform you that Dr. S. Cletus Babu has won the first edition of the Abdul Kalam Seva Ratna Award in recognition of outstanding contribution towards reviving traditional water bodies (deepening Ooranies) and providing drinking water, creating green campuses and villages. He was shortlisted from among 7.5 lakh entries and a jury comprising eminent academicians, former bureaucrats and others eminent personalities had finalised the winners. The award was instituted by the Abdul Kalam Vision India Movement recognising outstanding contribution of individuals to tree plantation, de-addiction, reviving water bodies, providing safe drinking water and creating green campuses, villages and cities, with an intention to commemorate Dr Abdul Kalam.
You may know that Bharat Ratna Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was a scientist and an administrator in India. He worked with Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) as an aerospace engineer before being elected the 11th President of India. His work on the development of launch vehicle and ballistic missile technology had earned him the name of the 'Missile Man of India'. He has been the visionary icon of inspiration and motivation for the enormous youth of the Indian nation. He is the only teacher who met, interacted, answered the questions and administered the oath to 2.5 crore students in the world. Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam passed away on 27 July 2015 due to a massive cardiac arrest after he collapsed during a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong.
Following the sudden passing away of former President, the Abdul Kalam Vision India Movement in partnership with the Madras Management Association (MMA) instituted the Abdul Kalam Seva Ratna Awards. The Chief Guest at the First Occasion for the Giving of the Abdul Kalam Seva Ratna Awards was Tibet’s spiritual leader, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, who presented the inaugural awards instituted in memory of former Indian President and top rocket scientist Dr APJ Abdul Kalam in Chennai, Tamil Nadu on 9th Nov. The Dalai Lama and former President APJ Abdul Kalam shared the same ideology of peace and prosperity and as such one great leader was honouring another. Though entry was free and on a first-come-first-served basis, the front few rows were reserved for people representing various walks of life, including farmers, auto drivers and children.
The guests for the award ceremony, which was held in the city’s Music Academy, included Mr V Ponraj, the Scientific Advisor to the late President; Mr TS Krishnamurthy, former Chief Election Commissioner of India; Mr DR Karthikeyan, former CBI special director, and Dr Nazeema Bagum, niece of the late President. As winner of the Abdul Kalam Seva Ratna Award on behalf of SCAD Dr. S. Cletus Babu received a gold medal, a citation and a certificate, apart from a cash prize of Rs. 10,000/-
This is within barely three months of SCAD having won the prestigious ‘Government of Tamil Nadu Award’ on 15th August 2015 and we are highly thankful to you for your kind support and encouragement and greatly appreciate your kindness.
